We took Sabrina in for her much anticipated surgery. Wow! That is just something you don't want to have to put your children through! She actually threw up on the way down to Primary Children's hospital because she was so nervous (and because we'd filled her full of any kind of juice she wanted for the morning). They took very good care of her at the hospital. She was very hesitant to let them try anything on her. She wouldn't even change into the hospital clothes. But the nurses were very understanding and changed her after she was out. The part Sabrina struggled with most at first was when they took her away for the surgery. They actually sedated her a little so it would be easier to take her. A sweet nurse named Minon came to talk with Sabrina before the surgery. She told her she'd be waiting for her when the anesthesiologist came to take her. Minon held Sabrina as she sucked in her bubblegum flavored "happy gas" and fell asleep on her lap.
The surgery went well and Dr. Cartwright was happy with the success. Sabrina took forever waking up. They tried everything to try to get her to wake. We spent several hours with her going in and out of sleep. We'd promised her two special prizes, and that was her biggest concern as she'd wake up. She wanted to play, but couldn't muster the strength to stay awake. We she was finally a bit alert we decided it was time to get her home.
The doctor had told us that at 7 days past surgery the kids were usually feeling their normal selves. At day 4 she still didn't want to walk, bathe, or sit up (though we encouraged her to do all 3). I thought there was no way she'd be better that soon. Well, the night of the fourth day her siblings tried talking her into walking. Funny how they could get her to do things I couldn't. She decided she wanted to walk and even tried running down the hall - not my favorite choice. By day 7 she was back at school. And though she was tender at the surgery site, she was back to being herself.
As of today (June 5th), she's doing great. She has a two inch scar just above her pelvic bone. We took her in for a follow-up ultrasound this week. They said it looked good, we're just waiting on the results from her doctor. If all looks well, she shouldn't have any more problems, appointments, or infections to deal with in the future! Now, if only those medical bills were so quickly taken care of!

Don't you just LOVE Primary's? All of the nurses there are so wonderful. It really does take a special person to work there to give the tender care to the patients. I am so glad that her surgery went well. Kids bounce back so fast from surgeries. I admit, I had to Google what the surgery/problem was!
