When we first moved into our house 3 1/2 years ago I immediately started decorating my 3 oldest kids rooms. Sabrina and Kali's room has been neglected due to lack of inspiration. Well, I finally came up with a few money saving ideas, and it's kept me busy for the last couple weeks. I just used the color palate based off of curtains I had made when we first moved in. Ironically, these were the same colors we used in my older two girl's rooms when they were little (it was nice to re-use the bedspreads), and my room as a little child was in these colors too. We even spared a small rocking chair painted a bright green, that was used in my room.
I didn't want to pay $2 a letter to put the girl's names on the wall. That would have been a minimum of $28! So, I found a font I liked and printed it out. I cut out foam-core (I think that's what it's called) and traced the letters on the foam core to add dimension. Then I found coordinating scrapbook paper and covered them with Modge Podge to give it a little sheen. The best part about it all is I was able to put the letters on the wall with Tacky. No Holes!
I was searching for a vinyl quote that I liked for the girl's room. Of course, the one that I found that I loved was over $40! It took a lot more time, but I printed the saying out in the same font I'd used for their names. I then used a charcoal pencil to transfer the words onto the wall. Then I painted them with regular craft paint. Kali asked why I was coloring on the walls (she loves to do it herself). That one was a hard one to explain to a two year old. I just used dollar store flowers and took the centers out and added the blue jewels. I also stuck those on with Tacky. I wish I had a better camera, it's pretty hard to see exactly how they turned out.
I also added these fabric flowers onto the dresser handles just to add color.
I still have another wall I need to figure out, but overall I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
